Boardwalk In The Dunes

On the Boardwalk
Winding along between the
Pismo State Beach Golf Course and the Pacific Ocean shore is a lovely stretch of boardwalk. The path connects the Oceano Dunes State Park and the Northbeach Campground. Protected from the wind, it is milder than down on the beach, and much easier to walk on than sand. I love this boardwalk in spring, when the succulent ice plant is blooming in fiery magenta and sunny yellow. It is a wonderful way to stroll through the dunes. Sturdy cedar planks and railings are aesthetically pleasing. There are several nice benches along the way to rest, reflect, and take in the salty ocean air. Gentle inclines lead up to viewpoints of the surf with the rocky cliffs of Pismo Beach to the north and the Oceano sand dunes to the south.  I think the boardwalk is a wonderful enhancement to the whole beach experience.

A huge sign across the entire front of the building dares us to Explore, Dream, Discover. When we approach, the discovery begins on the interactive sundial patio. In the Station, there are many more experiments and activities we are able to play with for hours of fun together.
The Station building was once a firehouse which lends itself perfectly to the science center. High ceilings are ideal for hanging exhibits. The station doors roll up to let in the outside, and add an industrial feel. A wonderful place to explore science. I think learning is always best when it is fun and the interactive exhibits at the Exploration Station are a wonderful family learning adventure.
